Includes Frost, which is currently under review by the hognose community. It's in the Public Morph Guide so you can browse it — the look is real and well documented; how it inherits is still being worked out.

The genetics

Axanthic

Recessive

Axanthic is a recessive mutation that removes yellow (xanthin) pigment while leaving melanin intact. The result is a gray, black, and white snake that keeps its normal pattern and dark eyes but loses all warm coloration.

Frost

Under reviewRecessive

Recessive — an animal must inherit two copies for it to show visually. A single copy is a hidden 'het' carrier.

This gene is currently under review by the hognose community.

Hypo

Recessive

(Evans/Dutch Hypo) — Hypo is a recessive, true hypomelanistic mutation that reduces rather than eliminates melanin. Dorsal blotches come out brighter and more saturated — often orange instead of brown — while the dark eyes are retained.

Anaconda

Incomplete Dominant

Anaconda, often shortened to Conda, is an incomplete-dominant pattern mutation. One copy reduces the normal blotched dorsal pattern, creating a cleaner, more open, simplified appearance — the pattern becomes reduced, broken, or simplified.

What makes a Casper Anaconda

  • Two copies of Axanthic — recessive, so it only shows when paired up.
  • Two copies of Frost — recessive, so it only shows when paired up.
  • Two copies of Hypo — recessive, so it only shows when paired up.
  • One copy of Anaconda — the single-gene form.

This describes the genetics of the animal itself — not the odds from a pairing. Outcome odds are the Genetics Calculator's job.
