The genetics

Albino

Recessive

Albino is a recessive, amelanistic mutation in which melanin is absent entirely. The normal blotched pattern stays visible but loses all black pigment, leaving red, orange, or yellow tones with red eyes.

Frost

Under reviewRecessive

Recessive — an animal must inherit two copies for it to show visually. A single copy is a hidden 'het' carrier.

This gene is currently under review by the hognose community.

What makes a Albino Frosted

  • Two copies of Albino — recessive, so it only shows when paired up.
  • Two copies of Frost — recessive, so it only shows when paired up.

This describes the genetics of the animal itself — not the odds from a pairing. Outcome odds are the Genetics Calculator's job.
